Double T Sports’ KetoCuts Review
Double T Sports’ KetoCuts is a relative rarity in the weight loss supplement world… in addition to a solid vitamin blend and a pinch of chromium picolinate, it contains a mere 3 ingredients in its weight loss matrix. At a time when jamming 30 under-dosed ingredients into 3 tiny capsules is the norm, this is a welcome change. Including fewer ingredients at a dosage high enough to elicit an effect is a smart strategy, even if the label of your product appears less impressive than some of the greatest offenders in this regard.
So which three ingredients does KetoCuts contain? Good question…
1. Green tea (300 mg standardized to 50% polyphenols): There`s plenty of evidence that green tea—when present in the appropriate dosage and standardized for the correct polyphenols and catechins—is helpful for weight loss.
For instance, it can aid weight loss by increasing the metabolic rate, causing those who use it to experience greater calorie burn (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. 1999 Dec;70(6):1040-5).
In addition, it appears to inhibit the action of the enzyme fatty acid synthase, an enzymatic system that is involved in the process of turning carbohydrates into fat.
The combination of caffeine with green tea—a combination present in KetoCuts—also seems to encourage weight loss (Obes Res. 2005 Jul;13(7):1195-204), and therefore is a smart addition to any fat burner compilation.
2. Caffeine (200 mg): Ah, good old caffeine, the standard ingredient common to just about every thermogenic weight loss supplement on the planet.
Of course, caffeine is in here for a reason: it is a mild thermogenic with demonstrated benefits for weight loss (see Am J Clin Nutr. 1989 Jan;49(1):44-50, Am J Clin Nutr. 1980 May;33(5):989-97), although some data indicates it offers greater benefits to lean individuals that those who are overweight (see Am J Physiol. 1995 Oct;269(4 Pt 1):E671-8).
Of course, it`s also cheap, and works effectively to provide a “boost” of energy many people find helpful, especially at the end of the day when a little “extra” is needed to make it to the gym for a productive workout.
3. 7-Keto: A metabolite of DHEA that exhibits no apparent side effects. Why is this important? Well, DHEA is a steroid hormone that occurs naturally in the body and is produced in the adrenal glands. And 7-keto does not convert into testosterone or estrogen, and has no effect on the sex hormones.
That’s a good thing.
What’s promising about this ingredient is its positive effect on thyroid hormone levels in obese people—again, without any adverse effects of any kind (see J Nutr Biochem. 2007 Sep;18(9):629-34. Epub 2007 Apr 5, Current Therapeutics, (7):435-442 2000).
The latter study concluded…
“The results of the study suggest that 7-oxo-DHEA combined with moderate exercise and a reduced-calorie diet significantly reduces body weight and body fat compared with exercise and a reduced-calorie diet alone. In addition, 7-oxo-DHEA significantly elevated T3 levels but did not affect TSH or T4 levels, indicating that it does not adversely affect thyroid function in the short term.”
The dosage for these studies was 100 mg, given twice a day. A single 2-capsule dose of KetoCuts contains 100 mg, so a full day’s dose (4-caps) corresponds exactly to this study.
And there you have it… KetoCuts in a nutshell.
As far as fat burners go, it`s not revolutionary. But it does contain 3 worthwhile ingredients, all of which are backed by some clinical data, and all of which appear to be present in the appropriate dosages.
Two thumbs up for that.
Of course, I am not suggesting that KetoCuts is a `lose 10 pounds in 10 days`solution.
But it certainly looks like it could be a helpful, useful product, especially when combined with appropriate diet and exercise.
Visitor feedback and comments on BodyBuilding.com (and visitor feedback must always be taken with a grain of salt, even on this site) certainly suggests this; for the most part, it is overwhelmingly positive.
On the negative side, this product is a bit pricey; a 60-capsule bottle costs just over $30. Since you`ll need to take 4 caps daily to duplicate the dosage used in the clinical results I referenced earlier, you`ll need to spend just over $60 for a month`s supply of product (although to be fair, 7-keto is an expensive supplement).
If you don`t mind the inconvenience, you can save yourself a ton of cash by creating your own version of this product with this stack…
This stack will cost you slightly more than $30 and last a month (stack one cap of each twice daily to duplicate the effects of KetoCuts).
Bottom line?
Decent product. A bit costly. Your call on whether to try it, or make your own version.
