What’s Your New Year’s Resolution?

It’s a brand new year, and I want to know…

Are making a New Year’s resolution? Studies show fewer and fewer people are bothering with them. Many of us have already learned; why bother, if you’re just going to fail?

Are you an optimist or a pessimist?

Will you set a goal or two, and do your darnest to live up to your end of the bargain? Or do you figure, “who cares, why bother?”

Either way, I’d love to hear from you. What’s your New Year’s resolution, or alternatively, what’s your thought on the whole “resolutions” thing? A good thing? A bad thing? A waste of time? An inspirational pursuit? Please share your thoughts with us and our visitors!

  1. resolutions are pointless for the most part. they sound great at first but they just wear out their welcome rather quickly. there really is nothing binding about them. unfortunately, people being who they are, seldom stick to things that have good potential because when things are not a direct impact on your life (i.e, you will shoot your eye out with that BB gun) it just falls away. as it is said, the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

on the other hand, making a change to include a positive habit, seems to be a better way. this requires more effort than saying you will quick smoking, for example. it also means that you will quick smoking but then add in accountability and other ways to keep you going.

i consider myself to be a optimistic pessimist, meaning this: it is all going down hill but it may be a fun ride getting down there : – )

  2. There is a certain futility about New Year’s Resolutions…but that’s because too many people bring an “all or nothing” mentality to them. Thinking about positive changes and setting goals is a GOOD thing. But it’s unrealistic to think that you’re always going to be 100% perfect in the process.

I’ve made a couple of resolutions this year, but both are pretty do-able, and I figure that – even if I don’t hit them, any progress that I make will leave me better off than if I hadn’t tried at all.

My resolutions are here: http://blog.ultimatefatburner.com/2009/01/01/happy-year/ and here: http://blog.ultimatefatburner.com/2009/01/04/bench-day/

All I can say is that, the year is young, but so far, so good. 😉
