Men’s Health: 18 Supermarket Lies

Men’s Health has a pretty good slideshow on deceptively labeled food products. Some of the examples are no-brainers (“fat-free” jelly beans, lol), but it highlights the need to parse label claims carefully… There are far too many unhealthy foods masquerading as healthy ones in your local supermarket.

Needless to state, the “information” on the front of the package doesn’t always provide an accurate picture of what’s inside.

  1. You should always read every label on those types of food. It seems there is always an ingredient or two thats not what you want.

IMHO the less ingredients there are, all the better.

  2. this is pretty good. convincing people that organic sugar is as bad as regular sugar is actually hard to do. both are the same but when you pay 2x-3x as much for the organic version, you just feel better than it is organic.

i am disappointed that ovaltine was not mentioned. talk about a sugar bomb.

the people that need to read this never will because they are to busy stuffing their face with all of the bad stuff.

  3. “Organic,” and “natural” are nice, soft-focus buzzwords that a lot of people fall for. Lets face it, food manufacturers have their marketing down COLD.

The one that cracked me up was the organic Kraft macaroni and cheese. Every time I think of Kraft, I think of faux foods like Velveeta, Cool Whip, Country Time Lemonade and Miracle Whip. Organic junk = junk… period.
