Makin’ Bacon

Everyone loves bacon.* Thus, I thought the vid below – on how the stuff is made – was pretty interesting… if not particularly appetizing.

No, don’t worry: unless you’re a vegetarian, it’s not particularly gross.  It’s just… so clinical and sterile.  Not to mention, I feel kinda sorry for the workers – to spend hours each day tending a greasy, bacon-smelling assembly line would be more than I could handle.

*Ok, nearly everyone – I’m no fan.

  1. I used to eat bacon, but have given it up for quite a while. My wife and son love their bacon. They order it every chance they get.

I would guess it’s like any other job, you get used to the sites and smells after a while.

  2. I agree with you.. this is so gross!
I hate bacon, seriously. In general, pork makes me sick ._. i’m not a vegetarian, Muslim or whatever.. I just hate it.
I much prefer chicken, turkey, beef and beans when it comes to proteins. Why choose something with this much fat in it? How gross 🙁

    • Alas – because people think it tastes good. But smoky/salty fat ain’t mah thang, either. It undoubtedly served a purpose way back when… when people performed hard manual labor every day and needed the calories. Beyond that, it kept well and could be used as a source of flavoring for many other plain foods, like beans – during the winter, I don’t doubt that meals were quite dull for most rural folks.

But that was then and this is now… indulging an appetite for practically pure grease is pretty counter-productive.
