Hah! Atkins Diet Wins Again!
You gotta love it. And I bet the late Dr. Atkins really loves it. Another study, this one published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, indicates that not only is the Atkins diet more effective than more the more conventional Zone, Ornish, and LEARN diets, it also leads to better blood lipid, cholesterol, and blood pressure levels as well.
Am I happy about this? You bet. For ages, one of my biggest pet peeves has been nutritional and diet “experts” who have dismissed the Atkins diet completely out of hand, labelling it dangerous and even “reckless.” None of these “experts” had ever really studied the diet in detail, assuming it allowed nothing but the consumption of meat, eggs, and cheese (in fact, it’s only the induction phase of the diet that severely limits carbohydrates. Afterwards, low glycemic fruits and vegetables — all required for optimal health — are reintroduced to the diet).
A short time ago, another study was released indicating much the same thing, but since it was not a long term study, once again the “experts” dismissed it out of hand. Well “experts”, it’s time for you to eat your words… or end your affiliation with the sugar and grain lobby (whatever works best for you). This study, conducted over a year, conclusively demonstrates the effectiveness and safety of the Atkins diet, and questions the long-held belief that low fat, high carb diets were the best solution.

So there!
Oh, and on a completely unrelated note, my girlfriend’s new web site is finally up!
