Johanna Quaas is Amazing!
Johanna Quaas is a competitive gymnast who hails from Halle, Saxony. That’s not the amazing part… The amazing part is that she’s 86 years old… and can perform moves that would put most younger people to shame! Check out her performance at the recent 2012 Cottbus Gymnastics World Cup in Germany: If I start working on it now, I might be as flexible as she is in 30 years! Some background on this remarkable athlete...
I’m Baaaaack…
Feels like it’s been a long time since I’ve been online – I’ve been totally in “move mode” for the last two+ weeks. Unlike our other moves, this one wasn’t bankrolled by the hubby’s company… so, while we hired a moving company to do the actual moving, we did our own packing. It turned out to be a pretty grueling process: at the end of the day, I just didn’t feel like doing...
No “Pink Slime” for Me!
I’ve been busy organizing, cleaning and packing in preparation for the big move, but I haven’t been completely oblivious to the news… like the recent ABC News report on “pink slime.” According to ABC journalist Jim Avila, “lean, finely textured beef” (aka “pink slime”) is a commonly used filler added to commercial ground beef. The catch is, because it’s “beef,”...
Avery Slims Down
As Paul noted some months ago, pets can inspire lifestyle changes. Paul’s dog, Lainey, inspired him to get out and do more walking. He lost a few pounds as a result – win-win for both puppeh and dad! But that’s small potatoes compared to the lifestyle changes inspired by another pet, Avery – as shown in the MSNBC vid below. Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy Cute. Hope...
SBM: “Is Gluten the New Candida?”
The big move is less than 3 weeks away! I’m spending the weekend cleaning and sorting the wheat from the chaff – that is, what to take vs. what to give away/discard. Even though we’ve only been living here for 4 years, and went through a similar process before we moved in, there’s still an astonishing amount of “chaff” to deal with. Ugh. Speaking of wheat, I’ll leave you with this awesome...
CDC Report: 16% of Kids’ Daily Diet Consists of Added Sugars
The title pretty much speaks for itself. Boys consumed an average of 362 calories/day from added sugars; girls consumed 282 calories. The report is here. CNN’s synopsis is here. FWIW, I imagine the numbers for total sugar in the diet could even be higher than this – the CDC report is concerned only with added sugars, and does not include naturally-occurring sugars (such as the sugars in milk and fruit). Even one glass of...
