Is This the Right Room for an Argument?
As the resident “scientific advisor” here at ultimatefatburner.com, I occasionally get called on to comment on issues unrelated to my primary tasks (writing bodybuilding supp and functional food reviews; blogging). Thus, it was no surprise to find an e-mail from Paul in this morning’s messages, asking for my feedback on an exchange he had with Dr. Ben Gonzalez, over his (negative) review on hCG for weight loss....
A Missed Opportunity
This story in the LA Times made me want to bang my head against the keyboard a few times. The irony is that the author makes two good points: random snacking can add up to surplus cals over the course of the day. if you don’t track what you’re eating, you can easily overeat without realizing it. Problem is, the experts consulted by the author never come to grips with the subject’s food CHOICES and eating...
Teriyaki Terror!
It doesn’t take much to turn a reasonably healthy meal into an unhealthy one, as we found out last night. John (the hubby) and I hit the gym kinda late (for us) last night – about 6:00 p.m. We both did a cardio workout, plus some ab work…but cut the latter short, as John was getting hungry. More on Hydroxycut
Iovate just released a consumer Q & A on the Hydroxycut recall, which is posted on a special site: HydroxycutInformation.com. I instinctively rolled my eyes at this para: We conduct internal analyses of individual ingredients, and undertake extensive medical, scientific and toxicological literature reviews on the safety of the ingredients during the development stage of each product. Additionally, third-party experts from the...
Clown Car Supplements II – Hydroxycut Edition
The FDA warning and Hydroxycut recall are all over the news now, and the major retailers appear to have pulled the products from their inventories. While the reports of liver injury are limited (23 so far), they’re still not easy to dismiss. Nor is it a good idea to do so, especially since there are some “take home” lessons from the current situation. One of them is a point that Paul and I have stressed in earlier...
FDA Warning: Stop Using Hydroxycut Products
Hot off the presses… The FDA said it has received 23 reports of serious liver injuries linked to Hydroxycut products, which are also used as energy enhancers and as fat burners. The reports include the 2007 death of a 19-year-old man living in the Southwest, which was reported to the FDA in March. Other serious liver problems reported included liver damage that resulted in a transplant in 2002, liver failure, jaundice, seizures...
