Hi-Tech CEO Draws 50 Month Prison Sentence
A link to this MSNBC report popped into my inbox just a few hours ago… Writing the final chapter in a strange criminal saga, a federal judge has sentenced the president of a Georgia company that manufactures popular lines of herbal dietary supplements to 50 months in prison for illegally selling knockoff prescription drugs over the Internet. U.S. District Judge Jack T. Camp also fined Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals CEO Jared Wheat...
Bench Day – Update III
I weighed 127 lbs. this morning…life is good. 🙂 I felt pretty stiff this morning, thanks to my Wednesday and Thursday workouts, so I made sure to take my time warming up. This helped a lot. My first set was a bit wobbly, but I got through it, and steadied up over the subsequent sets. I completed the first 4 sets at 130 lbs: 5/5, 5/5, 5/5, 5/5. So I put the big plates on (135 lbs!) for the last set and managed 3 full reps. This...
Old Gimmicks Never Die…
I was idly surfing around the web today, and came across a pic of an old, 1920’s ad for a bogus weight loss product: La-Mar’s Reducing Soap. Here’s the spiel: The new discovery. Results quick and amazing – nothing internal to take. Reduce any part of the body desired without affecting other parts. No dieting or exercising. Be as slim as you wish. Acts like magic in reducing double chin, abdomen, ungainly...

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ffIo2VAi_qg] Actually, I prefer Greek yogurt to all that sweetened Yoplait junk – higher in protein, and sinfully rich-tasting – even the...
10 Secrets of the Effortlessly Thin
…is the title of a little slideshow over at MSN.com. It’s actually pretty good, except – of course – for the title. According to the slideshow, those of us who manage to stay thin… don’t crash diet keep track of our weight exercise regularly don’t engage in emotional eating stop eating when we’re full don’t surround ourselves with temptation allow ourselves treats eat breakfast...
Counting Calories for Cooked vs. Raw Foods
I get questions on this all the time on the forums I moderate, so I figured this was worth discussing…it seems like a common point of confusion. Simply put, foods change in volume/weight during cooking. Certain foods, like meat or fish, shrink. Others, like pasta or oatmeal, expand. But what’s important to remember, is that the difference between cooked vs. raw is mainly due to changes in water content. Meat shrinks...
