Bench Day – Update VII

Normally we do this on Saturday, but there was a powerlifting tournament at the gym yesterday. The bench we typically use is close to a “traffic lane” – and I figured it’d be distracting to try and bench with a lot of people walking back and forth.

Pity though – as it turned out, it probably would have been better if we’d done it yesterday. We went out to dinner last night to celebrate Number One Son’s birthday (his 19th was on Thursday), and evidently something I ate didn’t quite agree with me. I didn’t feel overtly sick this morning, but I wasn’t 100% either…I had a mild case of indigestion and felt a little unsteady. Breakfast just seemed to sit in my stomach, and I felt bloated and uncomfortable.

As a consequence, I didn’t eat as much as I ordinarily would have today. I briefly considered cancelling the workout, but figured I’d go and see how I felt after my warm up sets. If nothing else – I could still spot for John if I decided I wasn’t up to the task.

And I did feel shaky warming up, but my strength was ok…so I took a shot at it, since I’m going to miss next week’s workout (I’ll be in Columbus, Ohio for the Arnold Classic).

Today was my first crack at 140 pounds, and – all things considered – it didn’t go too badly. My sets went: 4/5, 3/5, 3/5, 3/5, 3/5.

I did forced reps and negatives to finish each set. I even felt better – even hungry – by the time we finished, so that was a plus.

Hopefully, the coming rest will do me some good…140 pounds is my goal weight, after all. But I need to be able to lift that for 6 reps – not 4, so I’ve still got plenty of work to do on this.

When I think I’ve got it, I’m gonna bring the video camera and tripod to film it, so I can post it here – lol.

  1. Keep up the good work. You’ll get it. One thing I am sure about you is that you do not lack determination.

    A video would be great!!!
