New Diet Review: Awe-Slim

Awe-Slim is a slightly "hopped up" version of the old Body Solutions formula and the current Calorad formula (both these products claim to help you lose weight while you sleep.) Body Solutions, of course, is no longer on the market -- the FDA sued them in Dec 2002 for making false and unsubstantiated claims (there is no evidence that either Calorad or Body Solutions have any positive effect on weight loss).

The Idiot Proof diet may not be completely foolproof, but due to its easy-to-follow online format, it is pretty straight forward. It also presents a slightly different but entirely feasible approach to weight loss. While calorie and nutrient cycling is not the most common means of weight loss, it is one worth investigating. Basically, the theory is that you keep adjusting your caloric and nutrient ratio so your body never has the chance to adjust its metabolic ratio to a set rate. It also prevents your metabolism from slowing down... one of the main problems any dieter faces.

The Negative Calorie Diet

There's been a fair amount of hype on "negative calorie foods" and diets lately, and I've been receiving more than my fair share of questions on the legitimacy of such claims. Let me first say that no, there is no such thing as a "negative calorie food." Yes, some foods do elevate the metabolism more than others. For example...

... it requires 25-30% of the caloric value of any protein source to be digested and utilized by the body. So a 400 calorie protein-rich meal would only add 275-300 calories to your daily caloric intake. The remainder of those calories would be required for processing. For carbs, only 6-8% of calories is required for processing, and for fats, it's only 2-3%.
