New Review: Advalean!

Touting a powerful formula that attacks fat in 6 ways, Advalean is another of the many fat burners I receive questions about daily. Does it work? Is the formula really that revolutionary?

And so on.

If you've had an experience with Advalean you'd like to share (positive or negative), please contact me here!

While Advalean might present its formula to be something really special, it is simply a recompilation of many of the same ingredients common to most popular fat burners on the market today. Sure, Advalean may be marketed slightly differently, but it's not a revolutionary product. To demonstrate, let's look at each one of the components of Advalean, and decipher fact from fiction...

1) Metabolic formula: According to the advertising, the Metabolic Formula "Speeds up your metabolism helping you burn off the calories you consume with each meal".

I don't like their wording, because it is implied that it will help you burn off ALL the calories in a meal, which is simply not the case. Green tea, the only element of the metabolic formula which has actually been shown to elevate metabolism, might help the average individual burn off an extra 100 calories per day. That's not a significant enough number to impact your diet. The other elements of the Metabolic formula -- l-carnitine (reviewed in full here) and alpha lipoic acid (reviewed in full here) are both great supplements, but neither contribute to an elevated metabolism.

2) Energy formula: Claims to provide the necessary energy to both keep you moving and motivated. Also claims to raise your body's internal temperature and burn fat through the process of thermogenisis.

This element of the formula contains yerba mate and ginseng. Yerba mate provides a hearty helping of caffeine -- a mild, but not amazing fat burner -- and ginseng may or may not provide helpful with energy levels. Drinking a couple of strong coffees a day will provide you with similar benefits.

Thermadrol Follow Up

In the last issue of the newsletter, I posted a link to a full review of Thermadrol. Since then, I've been contacted by the main Thermadrol distributor. He wasn't too happy with my negative review to say the least. To read the Thermadrol review and the distributor's response to it...

The F.T.C. Has Some Fun

In the U.S., the Federal Trade Commission is the regulatory body that ensures companies conduct themselves in an ethical manner. It's not surprising therefore, that they have recently launched operation "Big Fat Lie". This operation targets the manufacturers of weight loss products who make grossly exaggerated and unsubstantiated product claims. If you're interested, you can read the full press release here...

Read the FTC Press Release!

Here's something I found even more valuable -- in order to educate the general public and enable them to identify bogus products, the F.T.C. has built a pretend Web site. This Web site sells a make-believe product called "Fat Foe" -- made from eggplant extract. You can view the site here...

The FTC's bogus weight loss site!

If you have friends, family, or colleagues who are often tempted by bogus products, send them to this Web site. Oh yeah, and remember to try and order!

Winter's On The Way

Well, if you live in the Northern Hemisphere you know all too well... it's coming.

Winter.

Blah.

Of course, winter is also the season for colds, flus, and just about everything else under the sun, too! And if you live in the U.S., you've got an even bigger problem. Seems 30 million or so Americans will have to go without the flu shot since there aren't enough doses to go around.

Now that's tough news!

In the face of that, and a barrage of coughing co-workers, children, and family, what's the best way to make it through the winter healthy and well? Good question...

1) Maintain a healthy diet: do your best to eat the freshest fruits and vegetables you can get your hands on. These foods are rich in nutrients, vitamins, and anti-oxidants, and are essential to keeping your body in top running order.

2) Try a "greens" supplement: This powdered superfood is a fantastic source of all the nutrients necessary for a primed immune system. I've got my Mom and my girlfriend hooked on this stuff -- they both use greens as an energy booster (this is one supplement that you will notice an immediate difference on!). I use PVL brand greens, but you can try any one of a number of decent brands. Or if you like, our store carries Green Defense (I haven't tried it myself, but the formula looks good)...

Check out the Green Defense Superfood!

3) Supplement with a high quality multi-vitamin: For obvious reasons, a high-quality multivitamin is a MUST in the winter. Many of you know I only recommend the Xtend Life brand of vitamins from New Zealand. They are pricey, but they are worth every penny. Low cost vitamins are virtually useless, since the high heat and pressure they are formulated with makes them almost impossible for the body to absorb and utilize. Xtend Life vitamins were the first and only vitamin formulation that caused me to notice a difference in how I felt. You can learn more about the Xtend Life product line here (take a look at "Total Balance")...

4) Wash your hands regularly with soap and water. This is one of the most effective, yet elementary ways to curtail the spread of infection. If you work in an office, you may wish to buy an anti-bacterial hand wash you can use on a regular basis.

5) Get 7-8 hours of sleep per night: staying rested is the key to staying healthy.

6) Reduce stress: stress can run you down and make you susceptible to illness, just as inadequate nutrition can. If you have a stessful lifestyle, try deep breathing exercises, working out, meditation, or tai chi. Get stress under control!

There... six ways to stay healthy and happy all winter. Eat well, supplement well, live well, and stay well!
